Flytown
In downtown Columbus, Ohio, a neighborhood known as Flytown occupied a piece of the area now recognized as the Arena District. It was named "Irish Broadway" around the middle of the 19th century because it was regarded as the epicenter of the Irish American community in Columbus. Most of the Irish people who made Flytown their home came to the United States hoping to lead a more prosperous life. They found employment in the city's factories and mills, and they quickly developed a significant presence in Columbus as a result.
The neighborhood gained notoriety for many breweries and pubs, attracting people from the working class. As more and more commercial companies, such as grocery stores and bakeries, moved in, West Goodale Street became the neighborhood's principal thoroughfare. The area continued to expand during the remainder of the 19th century and into the early decades of the 20th century when a large number of its residents started to relocate to other areas of the city.
In the city of Columbus, Ohio, this suburb was considered an industrial area because it was home to various manufacturers and enterprises. It was famous for its forge and foundry activities, and some of the world's most well-known businesses had their headquarters at one point or another. These businesses included Columbus Forge and Iro, Simplex Foundry, Columbus Coop Foundry, and Columbus Coffin Company. In addition to its role as a manufacturing center, Flytown was also the location of many other companies and organizations, such as Capital City Products and Dresser-Ideco Company. Even though the community is no longer home to any significant manufacturing, it has managed to preserve its identity as a working-class neighborhood.
This locale is a historic area that has been revived in recent years as a desirable place to live. It originally served as the hub of a thriving immigrant community. Still, these days it's more well-known for its variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars. Numerous independent shops, art galleries, and restaurants serving everything from brunch to typical German beer halls can be located in the vicinity. Visitors will find everything in these establishments. It is a terrific spot to spend the afternoon exploring because, along with its extensive selection of dining and retail establishments, it also features a number of parks and other open green spaces.
